How to Mark All Email as Read

two Answers two

If you go to the "All Mail" view from a calculator (not sure how the mobile version works) and click the 'select all' checkbox, a footling notification saying something like "All 50 conversations on this folio are selected. Select all 24,037 conversations in All Mail" should appear, where the concluding office is a link. If you click that link, then click 'Mark equally Read,' information technology should take intendance of the problem.

  • Well even after you do this (click on All mails and then click Mark as read) it still does not mark all as read. And the unread messages come dorsum as soon as I refresh.

  • @user30994 Not certain what's happening here... hard to debug why it's not marking all of the letters as read, without more information. As to the refresh...the marking-as-read is going to be a fairly bandwidth-intensive operation, so it'due south possible you're refreshing before all of the mark-read instructions have been sent across to the Gmail servers?

This should exist washed in a desktop browser (not mobile)

  1. Enter the following in the search bar at the acme of Gmail page "is:unread"

  2. Click "select all" (checkbox in a higher place the list of messages in upper left)

  3. Click the hyperlink in the text that pops up in the "All 100 conversations on this page are selected. Select all 56,315 conversations in All Mail"

  4. Click the "Mark As Read" push button on the top.

  • Tin can someone confirm this still works in 2017? I can't become this to work -- the popup no longer shows this as an option for me? It just gives me an option to Undo.

  • Okay update I establish out depending on what Inbox setting you are at, you may non get the option. Specifically, make certain y'all are in Default Inbox setting and not Priority Beginning (the setting I was in)

  • Worked in 2017 as explained.

  • The offer to select conversations across 100 displays only when I get into "All Mail" view and and then cull "Select all" using the drop down. When I start in any kind of a filtered view, the offer does not display for me. So yes, post-obit the instructions to the letter, this worked for me in 2018.

  • In 2018 I can only display upward to 100 E-Mails per page, so I can't mark them all as read at once, but since I simply had most 650 unread Eastward-Mails it was doable this way anyhow.
